About technology

Pulumi is a cloud-native, open source infrastructure-as-code platform that enables developers to create, deploy, and manage cloud applications and infrastructure using real programming languages. In other words, it offers developers the ability to program the cloud using their favorite programming languages instead of domain-specific languages that change with each deployment environment. Often, code refactoring for different execution environments leads to significant changes to the cloud resources required to execute the intended processes. This represents a major problem as enterprises shift to a combination of public, private, and hybrid clouds. With Pulumi, developers and DevOps teams gain the functionality of these common programming languages - the creativity, idioms, syntax, and abstraction - combined with a cloud-neutral object model and evaluation runtime that understands programs written in any language, understands the cloud resources necessary to execute them, and can then plan and manage those resources. This common framework shatters the bottleneck between development and DevOps by eliminating the domain-specific siloes in which team members currently exist. Uniting these previously separate, frictional workflows into one streamlined process represents a tremendous leap forward in facilitating the continuous delivery (CD) and efficient management of applications. As CD becomes the standard, enterprises will need tools that connect application code and infrastructure code in a way that’s logical, expressive, and familiar to the developers who design it and the DevOps team that manages it. Pulumi’s common framework is optimized for this dynamic, with a combination of tools, libraries, runtime, and service that facilitate programming any cloud using any language.
