About technology

SiFive is the leading provider of market-ready processor core IP, development tools and silicon solutions based on the free and open RISC-V ISA. SiFive is nominating its HiFive Unleashed development board. This board features the world’s first Linux-capable RISC-V silicon. It is also the world’s first chip taped out entirely via a cloud environment using SiFive’s processes with EDA tools running on a cloud infrastructure. The HiFive Unleashed features a Freedom Unleashed 64-bit multi-core RISC-V Linux platform chip, manufactured in TMSC 28nm HPC. The chip is only 38 mm2 pre-shrink and features 10 Mb of SRAM, 1091-bump FCBGA package, 2.2M instances, Top 441K, E51 64K, 4x U54 150K/core, 468K, GbE 104K, 1x E51: 16KB L1I$, 8KB DTIM with ECC support, 4x U54: 32KB L1I$, 32KB L1D$ with ECC support. It also features single- and double-precision floating-point support, 2MB Banked L2$ with directory-based cache-coherence & ECC support, and a Serialized Chip-to-Chip Coherent TileLink Interconnect. By making this board available to the public, we have enabled record achievements in porting Linux to RISC-V (majority of packets ported within weeks). This board, like our ISA, is extensible and we have demonstrated it with complementary hardware such as expansion boards and FPGAs. We have demonstrated a flexible AI application constructed with a standard Linux-capable design. The YOLO (You Only Look Once) image recognition application was constructed with the open-source NVDLA framework, demonstrating the flexibility of the hardware and software stack and the NVDLA accelerator.
